An object listed as a holy-water stoup, mortar, and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/103507] [accessed 22 April 2026]: "wijwatervat, vijzel [...] Date: 1101 - 1200 [...] hoogte: 12 cm; diameter: 30 cm [...] De (oorspronkelijke ?) functie zou eerder een vijzel weerspiegelen : de 2 uitgiettuiten gecombineerd met de (aanzet van) 2 handvatten & de versiering. A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 25 March 2026) informs: "Bruges, Gruuthuse museum, Romanesque baptismal font? In the Gruuthuse museum is an object under catalogue number VI.O.0251, that KIK-IRPA considers to be a fragment of a 12th century baptismal font
https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/103507. The provenance is unknown. The art historian Geert Verbrugghe of Centre archéologique Châlons-en-Champagne at Inrap Grand-Est (France) has pointed out that the vessel has all characteristics of a Romanesque mortar. Although the decoration (arches) is unique, he has identified mortars with similar heads. Such mortars were also used as stoup and fonts. For example 20872GER, 25523SAC, 25522CAM. Therefore, it cannot be excluded that the vessel entered the museum as “a font”."
