Font Notes:
The entry for this church in the German Wikipedia [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Lambertus_(Kalkum)] [accessed 6 April 2026] reports a baptismal font of ca. 1200 in it: "Der Taufstein der Kirche wird um das Jahr 1200 datiert." The font is said to have served as a water trough at a neearby inn, the Zur Rose; another source [cf. infra] reports it in the vicarage garden. The font, now damaged and very weathered, consists of an octagonal basin and a base with a central shaft and eight(?) outer colonnettes; the basin has a torus-scotia-torus around the sides, one of which shows a damaged protrusion that could have been perhaps a head or, if the font were of a later date, a heraldic motif.
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 27 March 2026) informs: "Kalkum, Sankt Lambertus. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Lambertus_(Kalkum) https://romanische-schaetze.blogspot.com/2025/02/deutschland-dusseldorf-nordrhein_0103288042.html
No good picture of a font worn by standing outside to collect water. The basin is octagonal : gothic. The multiple colonettes are a rare Romanesque feature."
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Pol Herman for bringing this font to our attention and for his help documenting it
