Baptismal font of stone, dated 1688 by an nscription, listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10024675] [accessed 2 April 2026]: "fonts baptismaux [...] datation, gravé, : : 1588 [...] hauteur: 104 cm".
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 30 March 2026) informs: "Bettincourt, église Saint-Lambert. Flemish name : Bettenhoven. The village was still Flemish in 1566. 1139 Bertincurt, Betincurt, 1180 Bettecoven, Bertinheve, Betinchoven, Bettincourt-lez-Liège 1139: The parish is mentioned in a charter listing the parishes subject to the offerings and processions of the “croix banaux” of Saint-Trond. Ecclesiastically, Bettenhoven was an ancient parish that included the villages of Berloz and Corswarem. In 1200, lords Hélvin and Gauthier of Bettincourt took command of the Liège warriors departing for the Fifth Crusade. A church is mentioned in Bettincourt in 1314, during a land survey. The parish priest's name was Willem. The church was found to be in a dilapidated state during the archdeaconry visits of the 17th and early 18th centuries.
During the Ancien Régime, the abbots of Amay held the patronage of the parish. It was thanks to Amand van den Steen de Jehay, secular abbot of Amay, that the current building was erected in 1771. Baptismal records start in 1851. Octagonal, mosan, limestone, renaissance basin with inscription 1588. There are further inscriptions on the basin, that have not been identified. I have the impression that only the basin is original because the primitive style of the base and column is at odds with the style of the basin. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10024675." Pol Herman's message mentions also a holy-water stoup of uncertain date in this church: "Octagonal, mosan, limestone stoup that KIK-IRPA dates 1591-1600. Difficult to date, looks primitive and older, but this could be because the church could not afford a more luxurious one. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10024672".
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Pol Herman for bringing this font to our attention and for his help documenting it. We are also grateful to Les Murs de Pierre for the photographs of the font and stoup
