Baptismal font of 1497; damaged but survived the 1912 fire that practically destroyed the church and most of the village; noted and illustrated in the corresponding page of the Evangelisch-lutherische Landeskirche Hannovers [https://kirchengemeinde-debstedt.wir-e.de/taufbecken] [accessed 25 March 2026]: "„anno dm mccccxcvii gotfridu klinghe“ so steht es in gotischen Minuskeln auf dem Debstedter Taufkessel. Gotfried Klinghe, Angehöriger einer Familie von Erzgießern, der in Bremen einer Gießerwerkstatt als Meister vorstand, hat ihn 1497 für die Debstedter Kirche angefertigt. Erst 1515 konnte er dann in der Kirche aufgestellt werden, so sagt es die Inschrift auf einem der „wilden Männer“, die den Kessel tragen. „D. P. Leßmann fecit me fieri Anno domini XVC un XV Bode Vocken Clawes Meymers Joh. Heinen Kersten Babeken” H(err) P(etrus) Leßmann ließ mich machen im Jahre des Herrn fünfzehnhundert und fünfzehn Bode Vocken Clawes Meymers Joh. Heinen Kersten Babeken.
Pastor und die genannten Kirchgeschworenen trugen durch finanzielle Beiträge dazu bei, dass der Taufkessel gekauft werden konnte. Dessen Preis scheint nicht unerheblich gewesen zu sein, denn es dauerte 18 Jahre bis er aufgebracht werden konnte. Ursprünglich, im Eingang der Kirche im Westen aufgestellt, steht er heute auf der linken Seite des Chores. Der Taufkessel ist das einzige Ausstattungsstück, das die wechselvolle Geschichte der Kirche überstanden hat. Beim Brand 1912 wurde er durch die herabstürzenden glühenden Balken schwer beschädigt. Doch nach 24 Jahren waren genügend Spendengelder gesammelt, um ihn wieder restaurieren zu können. Dem Schicksal einer möglichen Metallspende im 2. Weltkrieg entkam er dadurch, dass hellsichtige Menschen ihn in der Kirche eingemauert haben und er dadurch aus dem Blickfeld geriet." This is the bronze baptismal font made by Gotfried (Godeke), son of Ghert Klinghe. Ghert made the bronze fonts of Groothusen, Segeberg, Harsefeld and Zeven. His son Heinrich made the fonts of Pilsum, Esens and Uttum. His son Bartolt made the font of Eilsum."
