Font Notes:
The Museum notes for this font inform: "Type of object: Above ground baptismal font. Designation and origin: Brinkum. Brinkum is a district of the municipality of Stuhr in the district of Diepholz, Lower Saxony. In the entry book 1, page 96, no. 1433, it is noted as provenance that this baptismal font was given to the museum curator Fritz Heller on 29 August 1916 as a gift for the museum collection by the then pastor Friedrich Ludwig Wilhelm Noltemeyer on the decision of the church council of the church in Brinkum. Material, physical description, drainage, condition: Stone; sandstone. The baptismal font is carved from one stone. The octagonal shaft is unadorned and ends with a rounded profile at the top. The rounded dome initially swings outwards in a flat arc, rises upwards in a slightly curved shape and is pulled inwards again by the overlying rim. The double outwardly stepped and then rounded rim of the bowl echoes the octagonal shape of the body. The bowl recess is worked as a flattened semicircle. Four evenly spaced holes are visible on the upper side, indicating that the lid was once fixed in place. Two cartouches framed by volutes are chiselled into the dome wall, each containing an inscription and/or the name of the donor. The font is not moulded. There is no opening for draining the basin. The cupola is mounted on a new octagonal concrete base. No lid. [...] Inscriptions: Cartouche 1: CATHARINA ELISABETH: MEYERS
Cartouche 2: PHILIP JOHANNES BREMER: ANNO 1675. Bibiliography: Adamek, Marco, Erfassung der Sandsteinobjekte im Lapidarium, S. 10 (Inventar Museum Nienburg), Nienburg, 2000. Korff, Bettina, Dokumentation der historischen Recherche zu den Sandsteinobjekten
