A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 15 February 2026) informs about a fragmenr, a lion's head of stone, that may have belonged to a medieval baptismal font: "a Romanesque lion’s head was found that some authors attribute to an earlier Romanesque font." [Pol Herman adds the reference to Matthias Untermann's Eleonore Wintergerst: Die Ausgrabungen unter dem Niedermünster zu Regensburg, durchgeführt und dokumentiert von Klaus Schwarz, 3: Befunde und Funde der nachrömischen Zeit, Auswertung [ https://doi.org/10.11588/dgamn.2022.1.95042 ] [accessed 4 March 2026], where the lion head is mentioned: "VI.5 Löwenkopf (Abb. 19)" [https://archiv.badw.de/de/046276941/046276941.pdf] [accessed 4 March 2026] -- Pol Herman continues: "However, the eyes of the lion are hollow, and were probably used to hold a piece of glass. I think that such decoration, meant to twinkle in the candlelight, was only used in dark places, like capitals high up on columns. I have never seen such hollow eyes on baptismal fonts. Although it is known that baptismal fonts often stood under a ciborium which columns were fitted with holders for candles. There has recently been an article about these “baptismal fonts bathing in light”?"
