A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 17 February 2026 ) informs: "Sorinnes, église Saint-Martin. Sorina (1060), Surinis (1124), Sancti Martini in Sorinae (1150), Surines (1152), Sorines (1230), Haute-Sorine (1464), Haulte-Sorine deseur Dinant (1490), Sorune (1503), Sorenne (1558), Sorennes (1595), Sorinnes-lez-Dinant. The site of the ancient castle is located on a Gallo-Roman cemetery. The history of Sorinnes illustrates the complexities of feudal relations under the Ancien Régime. Indeed, a significant portion of its territory, known as Haute-Sorinne, belonged to the County of Namur. Another smaller part of the village was under the jurisdiction of the feudal court of Liège. Consequently, it was called the two Sorinnes, from which the spelling Sorinnes with a final "s" has remained. The Namur part belonged to the Villenfagne family, who lived in the local castle. The abbot of Leffe Abbey became lord of the Liège part of Sorinnes in 1464, a position he held until 1530 when he ceded the property to Guillaume de Waha. The Villenfagne family purchased this land in 1599 and united the village.
Sorinnes already had a church in 1152, but nothing of it remains. It was certainly the former castle chapel next to the church. The parish was served by Leffe Abbey. The abbots of Leffe fulfilled this role well before 1464, when they became lords of the manor, as confirmed by a document from 1211. Disputes arose regularly because, while the building was located in the Liège region, most of the inhabitants lived in the more important Namur region. The church was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in 1777. During the French Revolution, the church's property was sold as national property; bought back by a monk and then resold to Baron de Villenfagne, who returned it to the church in 1845. The building was modified and enlarged in 1880; the tower dates from this period. The baptismal registry begins in 1602. Composite limestone Mosan font, 17th century. The column is older. Brass lid dated 1645. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10091567".
