1070: Lietbert, bishop of Cambrai, donates the altar of “Brugellae” to the Abbey of Saint-Sépulchre in Cambrai. The lords of Brugelette were powerful, as evidenced by their funerary monuments in the church. The castle of Brugelette was burned down in 1815. The parish church, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, includes a late Gothic section dating from 1557. During the 18th century, the building underwent modifications. It was rebuilt in 1843 in the Classical style. Baptismal records start in 1618. Octagonal, limestone, Hainaut-type stoup, 16th c. Was probably used as baptismal font.
Inscription on the basin : A (stone mason’s mark). Coat of arms of Honorine de Melun. (1508-1590), lady of Runenberg or Ravensberghe, buried in the chapel of the sisters of the Third Order of Saint Francis at La Bassée and who was married to Jean de Jauche de Mastaing, the local lord.
