Baptismal font listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10064367] [accessed 23 February 2026]: "fonts baptismaux [...] pierre [...] gothique [...] hauteur: 98 cm [...] Date: 1569 - 1569 [...] inscription, gravé, sur la cuve: : 1569 [...] Couvercle de fonts baptismaux : Nº IRPA : 10064368".
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 28 January 2026) informs: "Flemish name : Beeklaren. Bèclè; Beclers; Bekelet; Bercleirs; Bercleris; Berclers; Bercles; Beuclers; Beuquelers; Biécle; Bierclers; Byèrclè. The font is shown in the movie : https://www.notele.be/it61-media14720-l-eglise-de-beclers-ouvre-a-nouveau-ses-portes-apres-7-ans-de-fermeture-06-09-11.html In 1065, Philip I, King of France, confirmed that Baldwin I, Count of Hainaut, had restored an estate to the Abbey of Hasnon: in Bercleris a le fossa. Little information exists about the history of the church and this agricultural village. The Church of Saint Peter in Béclers retains an imposing Gothic tower built at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries using Tournai limestone. The nave and chancel, however, were rebuilt in 1869 in the Neoclassical style. Baptismal records start in 1639.
Octagonal, limestone, Hainaut-type font, inscription on the basin : 1569. Which proves that “gothic” is not always the correct name for such fonts. The conical shape of the column indicates a late date, the column of gothic Hainaut-type fonts is vertical. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10064367".
