Font Notes:
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 17 January 2026) informs: "https://www.regionalgeschichte.net/westerwald/bad-marienberg/kulturdenkmaeler/evangelische-pfarrkirche.html No good pictures. Literatur." [translation: "Of all the misfortunes that befell the church building throughout its history, only the old baptismal font survived. The font, salvaged from the rubble of a fire in 1813, was secured by Bailiff Freudenberg. When he moved to Braubach in 1831, the tanner family Schnell used the font as a basin, collecting water from the fountain at the bailiff's house to supply their tannery. When the Pfeifer family took over the house, the basin lay neglected in their garden for many years. There, August Held discovered the font, recognized its purpose, and donated it to the parish. During the redesign of the churchyard in 1913, the Romanesque baptismal font was fitted with a stepped base and eight columns by master stonemason Dill of Weidenhahn and placed behind the Protestant church under the large elm tree. During the church's renovation in 1968/69, the baptismal font was moved to a stone-paved area in the eastern part of the churchyard. Since 1983, it has been back in its original place in the nave. This beautiful piece, now used again as a baptismal font, is the oldest Christian monument in Bad Marienberg."
