Sonsbeck No. 2

According to Sonsbeck.de [https://www.sonsbeck.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten/289] [accessed 25 January 2026] the medieval baptismal font of this church, together with the rights to baptise that had been part of its parish church function, was relinquished to the new parish church of Kirche St. Maria Magdalena in 'new' Sonsbeck. St. Gerebernus continued as a pilgrimage chapel.
NB: there seems to be contradictory information related to the font now at St. Maria Magdalena; the entry for this church in
[https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Maria_Magdalena_(Sonsbeck)#Taufstein] [accessed 25 January 2026] informs its font is indeed medieval but it was originally from the Katharinenkirche, not St. Gerebernus [cf. BSI entry for Sonsbeck No. 2]: "Der Taufstein befand sich bereits in der vor 1200 gebauten Katharinenkirche und stammt aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Der romanische Stein wurde 1431 auf Weisung von Eugen IV. in die Magdalenenkirche überführt. Der Sockel des Granitblockes ist viereckig und geht in ein achteckiges Becken über. Auf ihm ruht eine konkav geformte Metallhaube im neugotischen Stil. In ihr wird bei einer Taufe das abfließende Wasser aufgefangen. Der Stein ist das älteste Stück der reichhaltigen Ausstattung und steht mittig im Chor, zwischen dem Hoch- und dem Zelebrationsaltar."

A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (25 January 2026) informs: "In older literature, I find references to a “Namur”-like baptismal font of the old Sankt Katharinenkirche of Sonsbeck (today called Sankt Gerebernus Kapelle). Count Dietrich V allowed baptism in this church (then only a chapel) in 1193, and it became the first parish parish church of Sonsbeck in 1203. The church lost its “parish” status in 1431, and the font was removed.
