A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 28 December 2025) informs: "Fexhe = fiscus, financial receiver of the royal domain. Fehe (1178), Fexhe Advocati, Fexhe-l’Avoué, Fexhe-le-Voweit, Fexhe-en-Hesbaye. The village of Fexhe is located in an area rich in rural Roman archaeological remains. Some believe it was the seat of a roman fundus (agricultural settlement), that later developed in the illusive Carolingian domaine of Louhègn. See annex. The cult of Saint Martin is very ancient, and it was frequently promoted by the rural aristocracy and adopted by churches built in the curtis (farm centre) of estates belonging to the royal treasury. Originally, the church of Fexhe, standing atop a hill (the last vestiges of a castle mound) in the middle of a fortified cemetery, was probably a private church (eigenkirche) of the local lord. The chastial of Fexhe is mentioned in 1350. The present church tower is 12th century. 1034: Charter by Reginard, bishop of Liège, grants the church of Fexhe to the Saint-Laurent abbey of Liège. 1178: Radulphus, bishop of Liège, confirms that Everlin, abbot of the Saint-Laurent abbey, holds the "praebyteratus ecclesiae de Fehe". List of parish priests of Fexhe starts in 1203. The church of Velroux became an independent parish in 1270, Fooz in 1289. Until the French revolution, the parishioners of villages of Voroux, Goreux, Roloux, Noville and Freloux had to go to Fexhe for administration of baptism, even if some of them already had a church since the 12th century. Signed on June 18, 1316, the peace treaty of Fexhe introduced a democratic spirit into the administration of the City and Principality of Liège. 1648: The abbot of Saint-Laurent has the church tower repaired. 1668: Guillaume Natalis, Abbot of Saint-Laurent, rebuilds the tower, but the parishioners of Fexhe, Noville, Voroux, Goreux, Roloux, and Freloux must contribute to the costs. Modifications to the building in 1854-1859 and 1896. Baptismal records start in 1669. No trace of old fonts. The limestone baptismal font is undistinguishable from similar ones made by Jean-Pierre Maréchal in the middle of the 19th century. See those in Fumal (1841-1860) and Dreye (dated 1853). I would therefore propose that the font of Fexhe dates from the partial rebuilt of the church in 1854-1859. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10019949".
