Baptismal font of a composite nature listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10066542] [accessed 18January 2026]: "fonts baptismaux [...] Date: 1691 - 1800 [...] hauteur: 107 cm".
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman informs: "Bergniau, Dergniau, Ergniau, Erniaul, Dereniau, Dieregnau, Dyergnau. The earliest written records of the village date back no further than 1186. Cambron Abbey held a portion of the tithes there, which had been granted to it in 1201 by Baudouin of Constantinople, Count of Hainaut and Flanders. The parish of Dergneau was separated from that of Saint-Sauveur in 1550 (or 1569?) due to the importance of the pilgrimage in honor of Saint Servatius, patron saint of the local church. This separation occurred against the wishes of the Abbey of Saint-Denis-en-Broqueroie, which had held the right to the parish since 1233. This classically inspired sanctuary, built between 1777 and 1779, stands on the site of the former church. Baptismal records from 1677 onwards. The font is composite, KIK-IRPA says 1601-1800. The white marble base and column are baroque, 16th c. Comparing with other fonts of the region, there should be a basin with gadroons. Therefore, I suspect that the present basin has replaced it, thus being later. https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10066542"
