Church Notes: late-12thC church dedicated to St John the Baptist replaced an earlier priory; modified 13th and 14thC; dedication changed to St Mary; fortified and enlarged in the 15thC -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00092150]: "Cette église appartient à l'école d'architecture des Bénédictins et n'a rien de commun avec le style roman auvergnat proprement dit. Malgré de notables modifications introduites aux 15e et 16e siècles, le plan primitif du 13e siècle. Le plan du 13e siècle comprend : un choeur ou sanctuaire composé de trois chapelles ou niches rayonnant sur la moitié d'un cercle ; une travée formant transept avec coupole sur pendentif sur laquelle s'élève le clocher ; trois autres travées formant la nef avec des colonnes aux chapiteaux historiés ou végétaux. Au 15e siècle, ajout au nord d'une sacristie et deux chapelles dont une restaurée en 1613. Au sud, une chapelle et la tour de l'escalier qui conduit à l'étage fortifié remontent au 15e siècle. La porte d'entrée latérale sud s'ornait de voussures reposant sur huit colonnes aux chapiteaux sont historiés. Sur le chambranle, sont sculptées les représentations de vices. Les vantaux de la porte sont en bois sculpté, travail de la fin du 15e siècle."

Font Notes:
Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin raised on a round pedestal base; it appears to be plain but for a single round motif on the underbowl; it is partly built into a recess of the south wall, just east of the gallery. A flat wooden frame attached to the upper rim has a removable half lid.
