Church Notes: first documented priest in 1562 but church believed to be much older; village was burned to the ground by Calvinist bands from Ghent 1580-1584; baptismal chapel was restored in 1604; In 1645, Dutch troops caused considerable damage; village was destroyed by Spanish troops in 1646; church fell into disrepair in the 18th century and was demolished in 1771l the new, current church was completed in 1772. The font dates from 1862, no trace of older fonts.
