Font Notes:
The entry for this church in the Spanish Wikipedia [https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iglesia_de_San_Miguel_Arcángel,_Vivar_del_Cid_(Burgos)] [accessed 9 November 2025] mentions a small baptismal font of Romanesque style now being used as holy-water stoup: "una pila bautismal de estilo románico, lisa, pequeña y con gallones, hoy en día la utilizan como pila de agua bendita". Actually there are two vessels inside the church: the actual font in use and the holy-water stoup mentioned above [cf. BSI entry for Vivar del Cid No. 2 for a full description and images].
The font itself consists of a totally plain hemispherical basin raised on a short square base. It is well nigh impossible to date the plain basin except that its general shape and that of the base suggest a much later date than the 11th-century to which the original church belonged and, despite its total lack of decoration, could very well date from the 16th-century re-building. There is no cover present but there is a metal staple and evidence on one other on the opposite side of the upper rim, surely related to an earlier cover.
