Baptismal font listed and illustrated in Schulin (2021). A second font in St. Marien Freiberg. A number of digital photographs of the font and its cover can be seen in Wikimedia [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Freiberg,_Dom,_Taufstein-002.jpg] [accessed 31 August 2025].
The font cover is a complex structure: on the rounded lower platform sit four child figures wearing hooded capes, one of them wirh the hood off; between and behind them a lush foliated background; the next platform up serves as the base for a very large Crucifixion topped with a stylised sun; on the underbelly of the cover is a Gospel inscription related to baptism. The font consists of a round basin with slightly tapering side with one row of linked gilded circles between teo thin mouldings, also gilded; the underbowl is ribbed. all of it has gilded edges painted on. A metal basin is set on top of the stone basin. The base is somewhat similar to the lower level of the font cover, with four figures wearing hooded capes which one source suggests they are miners ["Bergmann / Meinenarbeiter" -- the wealth of the region at the time were the silver mines]; they sit in a complex milieu of architectural motifs and structures; below them is a row of rounde stones and anothe of thick arches; partly gilded.
