Font Notes:
Grattan-Bellow (1979) reports "an interesting sandstone font" in the old parish church of Grange Sylvae. Baptismal font somewhat similar to the one at St Canice's cathedral in Kilkenny: a roughly square basin decorated with a fluted pattern on the four side panels, raised on a broad central shaft and four corner colonnettes with noulded bases, and a plain square plinth; no cover present. A digital photograph of this font taken 13 September 2024 by A.-K. D. in Wikipedia [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gowran_baptismal_font_in_St_George's_Church_Goresbridge.jpg] [accessed 24 July 2025] and [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gowran_baptismal_font_from_top.jpg] [accessed 24 July 2025] is captioned: "Gowran baptismal font in St George's Church Goresbridge, brought here from Powerstown Church" and "Top view of ..."
A 3-D model of this font made by b-unicycling may be seen in Sketchfab [https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/goresbridge-gowran-baptismal-font-ad87464e1d804fdc8d425032fe43cc42] [accessed 24 July 2025]; the caption reads: "This baptismal font of the Ossory type is said to have come from Gowran originally. It is now kept and used in St George’s Church in Grange Sylvae (Goresbridge). It is deeper than some of the other examples, or rather, the ratio between depth and circumference is different to others. The base looks modern, but the dimensions might fit the base in St Canice’s Cathedral."
