An article in the regionalgeschichte.net 'Ein spätgotischer Taufstein und die Glocke von 1479 aus der ehemaligen Walburgiskirche auf dem Friedhof in Mengerschied' [https://www.regionalgeschichte.net/hunsrueck/mengerschied/kulturdenkmaeler/taufstein.html] [accessed 18 January 2025] describes the remains of a late-Gothic stone baptismal font from the disappeared Sankt Walburgiskirche of Mengerschied; it mentions that, after the collapse of the church, the baptismal font was left exposed to the elements; the long exposure has eroded most of the carving which covered the sides of the basin; the article refers to a description in the Kunstdenkmälern des Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreises, which noted that the font is made of reddish sandstone, 89 cm in height and with an external diameter of the basin at 102 cm; the sides of the basin are described as having been decorated with scenes that alternate figures seated at writing desks accompanied by their animals [the Four Evangelists] with Adam and Eve, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection, and one more panel of which nothing could be identified; the lower base is reported missing. [NB: the article gives the source: Kunstdenkmäler des Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreises, Bd. I, S.649/650].
