Church Notes: abbey church listed in Mérimée [ref.: IA68003296]: "D'après la tradition l'abbaye de Masevaux fut fondée par le prince Mason, frère du comte Eberhard qui créa l'abbaye de Murbach, dans la vallée de Guebwiller. Ce monastère de bénédictines (?) fut rapidement transformé en chapitre de dames nobles sous la direction d'une abbesse. La première église fut élevée entre 720 et 780, remplacée par une église de style roman à une date inconnue. Le choeur de l'église fut reconstruit dans la 2e moitié du 14e siècle (à partir de 1353). Cette église exista jusqu'en 1859, date à laquelle la nef fut détruite par le feu et définitivement supprimée, alors que le choeur était restauré et transformé en 1881 en tribunal cantonal, avec adjonction d'un bâtiment contigu au nord."
