Font Notes:
Standing in the little enclusre where the baptismal font in use in thei church [cf. BSI entry for Villandry No. 1] are two objects of interest: one of them is a square basin of a stone baptismal font, decorated with a blind arcade on one side, a large saltire or X-motif on another; a metal cinch is used to reinforce the cracked sides; one side show an exterior drain hole which suggests the re-purposing of the basin as a planter or trough; it stands on a squat polygonal base with four very short round legs; no cover present. The other object in the enclosure is a cylindrical basin, rather small, as one would expect from a holy-water stoup, but with a central drain.
