The present baptismal font in use is modern, octagonal; located at the east end of the nave, between the pulpit (left) and the organ (right). A disused font consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin and a round pedestal base is also found inside the church; it is totally plain but the design suggests a late-medieval date, perhaps contemporary with the major modifications carried out in the early 16th century when the church became Reformed. Excavations and the study of the earliest church in Erwin Poeschel, Die romanischen Deckengemälde von Zillis. Erlenbach-Zürich 1941; derselbe: Die Kunstdenkmäler des Kantons Graubünden. Bd. V, (Basel 1943, S. 223ff) here show that the original late-15th century church included an area believed to have been destined for immersion baptism that could be heated; no font found in it.
