The entry for this church in the French Wikipedia [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Église_Saint-Julien_de_Saint-Julien-Chapteuil] [accessed 16 August 2024] mentions two vessels in this church: "Parmi le mobilier, il est à signaler en particulier : des fonts baptismaux datés du VIIe siècle, dont l’origine n’est pas établie ; un ancien bénitier transformé en fonts baptismaux". Two vessels are illustrated in the Je traine ici et là entry for this village [http://jetraine.canalblog.com/archives/2020/11/24/38650368.html] [accessed 16 August 2024]: one appears to be a much damaged and eroded baptismal font, apparently monolithic, consisting of a roughly round basin on a pedestal that includes clustered colonnettes on a square lower base; appears medieval. The other vessel shown in the Je traine... site [cf. supra] appears also monolithic, a tapering square shape and plain; this may be the one referred as a stoup now used as font [NB: this same object is illustrated also in Raymond Faure [http://www.raymond-faure.com/Auvergne_Romane/Saint_Julien_Chapteuil_Église_Saint_Julien_Intérieur.html] [accessed 16 August 2024] where it is captioned: "Ol[d] baptismal font (1639) with the IHS monogram (Jesus our Saviour)". Dennis Aubrey writes in his entry for this church [https://vialucispress.wordpress.com/2015/11/19/an-abbey-church-in-the-home-of-poets-dennis-aubrey/] [accessed 16 August 2024]: "On the altar is a cryptic 7th century baptismal font. Of unknown origin, the font features a pair of sculpted figures, each within an arched frame. It appears that the left hand figure is a Madonna and Child and the right hand one is a bishop holding a vessel of some kind (perhaps a vial of holy water?). The knot decorations would indicate a Celtic influence to the ensemble." [NB: the object is very crudely rendered, the carving not skilled at all; attributing such an early date on account of these factors would go against Francis Bonds general rule of not assigning ancien dating to crudely executed works].
