A communication to BSi from Pol Herman (e-mail of 4 July 2024) informs of the sad history of the medieval font here: "I unexpectedly came across the “old” baptismal font of Kaulille. The Facebook page “You are from Kaulille if you remember that in the past…” talks about the now disappeared Lourdes Grotto near the church. In this document, Mia Croonen writes: “To the left behind the Lourdes Grotto there was a shed, at the end of the 1960s, that contained the old baptismal font from the old church and old church furniture.” I started digging further, and I got the following answer from Kaulille: when the old church was demolished, the baptismal font was indeed moved to a shed near the grotto behind the church. When this building was cleared away, the baptismal font came into the possession of Mia Croonen's father. There was no support of the baptismal font, because the basin was bricked into the wall. Mia made a small sketch [cf. ImagesArea]. She also sent me a wedding picture of her standing next to the baptismal font used as a flower pot. I send you a detail of this photo [cf. ImagesArea] During the inheritance division, this baptismal font was sold to Mr. Penders, an antiques dealer from Ophoven. But he has passed away long time ago. For comparison, you will find a similar baptismal font in the church of Jette (Belgium), which dates from 1597. Such date would correspond to the time of construction of the Gothic church at Kaulille." [NB: we have no knowledge of the present whereabouts of this font; the former owner's photograpj shows a vessel more likely to be late-medieval, therefore not the original font of the Romanesque church here].
