view of basin and cover

Scene Description: Source caption: "Ehemaliger Taufstein an der Kirche in Rippersroda, Thüringen" -- notice the damage to the sides; a hole made on the side suggests this basin may have been used as a decorative planter at some point

Additional Comments: disused font (outside the church)
Font Notes:
A "Taufkanne" is reported in P. Iielifeldt's BAU- UND KÜNST-DENKMÄLER THÜRINGENS (Jena: Gustav Fischer, 1898) p. 183 ["In die Kirche eu Rippers Bafka 1828"] without further details of what is being referred to. The tub srabding outside the west antrance of the church appears to be hexagonal decorated with a band of round arch-heads, the underbowl plain and rounded; it appears to have a syubby base, probably meant to match or accommodate a pedestal base of some sort. The metal cover is obviously modern and meant to protect the stone from the elements.
