Baptismal font reported in Schmidt (1891) as being in the church but no longer in use ["Der alte Taufstein von 1579 ist noch vorhanden, aber nicht mehr in Gebrauch"]. The web site Aderstedt, Ältester Ortsteil der Gemeinde Huy [https://www.aderstedt.info/Sehenswuerdigkeiten/] [accessed 18 April 2024] notes that the baptismal font from the earlier church, thought to have been lost, was returned to this church in 2016 and is displayed in the foyer ["Im Jahre 2016 kehrte der verlorengeglaubte Taufstein von 1579 in die Kirche zurück. Dieser stammt noch aus der Vorgängerkirche und wird im Foyer ausgestellt."]. Ramona Adelsberger's article 'Wie ein Taufstein aus der Lutherzeit zurück nach Aderstedt gelangt ist' in the 30.12.1899, 00:00 [sic] edition of Volksstimme [https://www.volksstimme.de/lokal/halberstadt/wie-ein-taufstein-aus-der-lutherzeit-zuruck-nach-aderstedt-gelangt-ist-3287283] [accessed 18 April 2024] informs on the long-lost font and its return to the Aderstedt parish church: the font was discovered in 2016 by Maik Berger in the cloister of the Liebfrauenkirche of Halberstadt; Berger found out that the Aderstedt font had been on loan to the Stadtmuseum in Oschersleben in the 1920s but found its way into the cloister of Liebfrauenkirche of Halberstadt, where Berger located it in 2016; it was then returned to its original church in Aderstedt. The baptismal font made of reddish sandstone bearing the date 1579; it consists of an octagonal basin with a pronounced moulding at the upper rim, the sides below decorated with rectangular cartouches, one of which bears the date 1579; the underbowl is octagonal-to-round and end below in a roll moulding; the pedestal base is round and much damaged, but a very eroded band of cherub heads accompanied by some foliage motifs is still discernible above another pronounced moulding; the lower base is round and particularly damaged and eroded so that whatever decoration it had is no longer discernible. No cover present. A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 26 January 2024) includes the reference to Schmidt [cf. supra], to the museum temporary location, to the information on the discovery by Maik Berger, etc.
