An entry in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/147361] [accessed 20 March 2024] lists and illustrates fragments of a 13th-century Romanesque baptismal font of the type consisting of a table-top basin raised on a round support base were discovered during the 1973-1976 excavation campaign; the material is a Tournai limestone qand it is decorated with dragons: "Gevonden tijdens de opgravingscampagne van 1973-76 in het laatromaanse abdijkoor en een deel van het noordelijke zijkoor. De doopvont was van het tafelblad-type met centrale steun. Cf. De Oude Abdij van Drongen, Drongen-Leuven, 2006, p. 461 e.a. Animal: draak". A fragment of a Romanesque batismal font is noted and illustrated in Bombay (2006); it was made of Tournai limestone in the 13th century; the sides were decorated with dragons, probably representing devils, the evil removed by baptism; the fragment measurements given are 85 x 15 x 32 cm; the font may have been broken up during the iconoclastic period, and were used as masonry fill-up in the 16th century; the author illustrates the fonts at Zedelgem and Dendermonde as reference. The present font in the parish church is an unremarkable one of the 19th-century, listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/81479] [accessed 20 March 2024]
