Patrick Comerford [http://www.patrickcomerford.com/2019/09/rathrnonan-church-near-ardagh-has-links.html] [accessed 11 January 2024] informs that the church at Rathronan (Church of Ireland) near Ardagh is modern, of the 1820s, but has been without services for decades: "Although this former parish church shows some signs of disrepair – the pews have been removed and the baptismal font is in a broken state of disrepair – it is cared for with affection by the local community and it retains several integral elements of architectural significance as well as much of its original form [...] the original altar rails, prayer desk and pulpit survive and many of the windows are still in a good state of repair, although the baptismal font and its plinth are broken and lie in many pieces at the west end of the church." The font fragments are illustrated in this site: an octagonal basin with plain sides, a fragment of the pedestal base that shows a stem of clustered colonnettes, and an octagonal section that, although upside down now, may have been the underbowl section, decorated with trumpeted lillies; it could alternatively be the lower base. The font may date to the early-19th century, but it is of a design that could claim earlier dating.
