Font Notes:
Drake (2002) mentions a group sandstone font in Westphalia, "in the area south and slightly east of Bremen", which includes the fonts at Achim, Heiligenfelde, Riede and Verden cathedral, as well. The entry for this church in the German Wikipedia [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Andreas_(Riede)] [accessed 10 January 2024] describes a baptismal font of ther early-13th century that had been relegated to the pastor's farm, where its upper rim had been trimmed off when it was used as a trough for the chickens; during the 1958 restoration of the church the old font itself was restored too, its upper rim re-constructed; it was restored to the church and installed in the Bichtkammer, now used as baptismal chapel ["Der romanische Taufstein entstammt der ersten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts. Er wurde vor 1700 als Hühnertränke auf dem Hof des Pastors missbraucht, indem man ihm einen Teil des Randes abschlug, damit die Hühner besser an das Wasser kamen. Bei der Restaurierung 1958 vervollständigte man die Pokalform wieder und holte ihn in die „olle Bichtkammer“, die seitdem als Taufkapelle dient"]. [NB: the basin underwent a reconstruction after it was receovered from the pastor's farm; its original shape may have been more hemispherical, like rest of the group noted in Drake [cf. supra].
