Church Notes: small Romanesque church re-built in Gothic style in the 13th and 14th centuries and after a fire in 1442; completely demolished before construction of the current church began; tower blown up by retreating German army in October 1944; re-built; church restored 2017-2026 The St. Catherine's Church in Hoogstraten was built in late Gothic style between 1525 and 1550
The mid-16th(?) century baptismal font, its font cover and crane are listed and illustrated in BALaT KIK-IRPA [https://balat.kikirpa.be/object/40318] [accessed 21 December 2023]: "doopvont, doopvontgalg [...] Date: 1501 (ca) - 1600 (ca)" [NB: the KIK-IRPA entry gives the height as "hoogte: 227 cm", which includes the total height of the crane mechanism]. The metal font cover is a stepped dome, handled with a wall-mounted metal crane ["arm hersmeed in 1963"]. The entry for this church in the Dutch Wikipedia [https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint-Katharinakerk_(Hoogstraten)] [accessed 21 December 2023] reports a baptismal font of the 16th century in it.
