Font Notes:
The article 'Vom Regenwasser und Taufe' in the Bodenheimer Heimatmuseum [https://www.vg-bodenheim.de/wohnen-leben/kultur-freizeit/theater-museen/bodenheimer-heimatmuseum/] [accessed 16 December 2023] informs of and illustrates an old stone font that served for years in a private garden as a catch basin for rainwater, but is now one of the showpieces in the Bodenheim Museum. The entry for the Bodenheimer Heimatmuseum e.V in Kulturbox.de [https://www.kulturbox.de/museen/bodenheim/?vo_id=_09H16BZ2C] [accessed 16 December 2023] gives a slightly different description of the font, as a font from the 11th century, which a club member found in a front garden where it was used as a bird bath. It bears witness to the relationships with the knightly monastery of St. Alban in Mainz ["das Taufbecken aus dem 11. A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 27 March 2023) informs of this font: "I receive the following pictures of the font of the Heimatsmuseum at Bodenheim. Today this font is at the Dom-und Diözianmuseum in Mainz, and only a copy remains in Bodenheim [...] Azzola, Friedrich Karl. (1999) - In: Mainzer Zeitschrift Bd. 90/91 (1995/96) S. 1-4. To me, it looks like belonging to the same family of fonts as Haamstede and Dordrecht. This obvious link between them would be the Rhine as means of transport. In Kuiken (2004) after Schuchert (1960). Kuiken (ibid.) notes that the Museum acquired the font in 1952. The fragment of the old font shows [several?] buttress-like piping on the outside but, curiously, it has several symbols carved on the inner basin sides: at least two processional crosses and one abbot's crozier; the latter may be related to St. Alban's at Bodenheim [NB: a number of images were sent by the Museum to Pol Herman, who forwarded them to BSI [cf.
