Church Notes: original church 6thC(?); Romanesque church 11thC; modified since -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00109728]: "Première mention d'une église dédiée à Saint-Lubin au 6e siècle. Au 11e siècle, édification d'un sanctuaire roman (nef unique à cinq travées, une travée de choeur dotée d'une coupole sur trompe). Au 17e siècle, l'abside est fermée par un grand retable et deux autels latéraux (1644). Au 19e siècle, l'église est en mauvais état et trop petite : campagne de travaux sous la direction de l'architecte Nourry-Blatin entre 1856 et 1862. L'église est augmentée d'une travée, construction d'une chapelle latérale et d'une sacristie sur la façade sud, vestige de la tour-clocher déposé et remplacé par une flèche plus légère, toiture refaite en ardoise. Au 20e siècle, des peintures murales des 12e-13e siècles ont été découvertes sous un badigeon : elles représentent le Christ entouré du tétramorphe."

Date de l'enquête initiale : 2008. Date(s) de rédaction : 2009 [presentation-des-objets-mobiliers-de-l-eglise-paroissiale-saint-lubin-de-la-commune-de-coulonge.pdf] [accessed 17 January 2024]: "Fonts baptismaux et clôture (IM72001631)"; no other details given. The font is listed and illustrated in the Service du Patrimoine, Région Pays de la Loire [https://www.patrimoine.paysdelaloire.fr/linventaire/detail-notices/IM72001631/] [accessed 21 January 2024]: "Les fonts baptismaux sont très probablement l'oeuvre d'un atelier local actif à la fin du XVIe siècle. Le couvercle a été ajouté au XIXe siècle. La clôture est très sûrement l'oeuvre d'un menuisier local actif au XVIIe siècle. Les fonts sont en calcaire peint en blanc. La cuve de forme ovale est fixée sur un large pied. Elle contient trois cuvettes rectangulaires et une centrale ronde. Le couvercle bombé en cuivre est couronné d'une croix. La clôture en bois est constituée de quinze balustres [...] h = 89 ; la = 62 ; pr = 52 Dimensions prises sans le couvercle. Clôture : h = 70 ; longuer= 420." The only decorative detail on the exterior of the font appears to be a flat moulding at the upper rim.
