The donor of this font was probably Pastor Conrad Oesterlin (1596-1668); he registered the first baptism in his new font on 3 December 1967 ["Wahrscheinlich ist Pfarrer Conrad Oesterlin (1596-1668) der Stifter des Taufsteins; ganz bescheiden vermerkt er im Kirchenbuch die erste Taufe auf diesem Taufstein am 3. Dezember 1667"] [NB: source N/A]. The entry for this church in the Evangelische Kirchengemeinde Weinsberg [https://www.kirche-weinsberg.de/johanneskirche] [accessed 13 December 2023] notes the Baroque font decorated with cherubs ["Der barocke Taufstein erinnert mit seinen Puttenverzierungen"]. The present font appears to be made of a reddish-brown marble, and consists of an octagonal base decorated with cherubs in the panels, but at least one of the heads is a wingless putto, rather than a cherub; pronounced sharp moulding at the waste. on a bulbous octagonal pedestal base on the sides of which four putto heads alternate with an equal number of large foliage motifs; moulded square lower base. No cover present. [NB: we have no information on the font of the medieval church here].
