Schwanbeck / Schwanbeck im Friedland / Swanebeke

The entry for this church in the Evangelisch-lutherische Kirchengemeinde St. Marien Friedland [https://st.marien-friedland.de/kirchen/schwanbeck/] [accessed 7 December 2023] reports and illustrates the remains of a 15th-century granite font outside, by the south portal ["Vor dem Südportal der Kirche stehen die Reste einer Granittaufe aus dem 15. Jahrhundert"]. There is a rough cover present but the side of the basin shows evidence of a metal anchoring for an earlier cover. The entry for this church in Dorfkirchen in MV [https://www.dorfkirchen-in-mv.de/content/Version_1/detail_gesamt.php?Reg_Nr=807] [accessed 7 Dece,ber 2023] mentions two old objects -fonts or stoups- flanking the south entranceway ["Der Eingang im Süden wird von zwei alten Tauffünten oder Weihwasserbecken flankiert"]. There are actually two vessels outside the south porch, one on each side; the one on the right [east] side is easily identified as a baptismal font, a roughly hemispherical basin raised on an octagonal pedestal base, whereas the one on the left [west] side is a challenge to identify as either a font or a holy-water stoup; another possibility, perhaps the more likely one, is that the object on the left was the original base of the basin on the right. A plain wooden lid sits atop the object on the right, a good idea to protect the basin from cracking if water inside it freezes.
