Kaat Schuurmans' Master's thesis 'De bouw van de nieuwe Sint-Laurentiuskerk van Hamont (1903-1904): Een studie van de belangrijkste actoren en de institutionele context' [https://libstore.ugent.be/fulltxt/RUG01/002/349/089/RUG01-002349089_2017_0001_AC.pdf] [accessed 22 November 2023] informs that a parish church in Hamont with a font in it had been documented in 1338 [source: Leijssen, Gedenkboek Sint-Laurentiuskerk 1904-1979, 15]. The entry for the new church in the Inventaris Onroerend Erfgoed [https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/80019] [accessed 22 November 2023] reports a baptismal font of marble of unknown origing and probably dated to the early-19th century in use here; also noted is a copper lid ["Doopvont van onbekende herkomst, met marmeren voet en koperen deksel (begin 19de eeuw?)". A communication to BSI by Pol Herman (8 January 2023) informs: "The Brabant schoolmaster, P.N. Panken, during a visit to Hamont around 1870, noticed 'a completely dilapidated baptismal font made of hard tombstone [sic]'. According to Panken, the baptismal font had "4 heads on the outside, of which 3 are no longer present" and was located "northwards the sacristy" and served "to collect the water that runs from the church gutter". This font is probably lost, old documents do not show it."
