Described and illustrated in Ludovic Hellemans' De romaanse doopvont in de Sint-Laurentiuskerk te Hove: oeroude symbolen in middeleeuwse iconograpfie (Hove: Uitgave van de gemeentelijke Heemkundige Kring "De Markgraaf", 1985) [DE ROMAANSE DOOPVONT.pdf] [accessed 18 October 2023] with measurements, etc., and a study of related fonts; Helleman (ibid.) classes it as a Tournai font ["De doopvont van Hove is Doorniks werk"; with regards the dating Hellemans is cautious, a dangerous undertaking, as he puts it ["Het juist dateren van deze doopvont is wel een hachelijke onderneming. Over geen enkele stenen Romaanse doopvont van ons land vindt men een exacte datum"]; Hellemans refers to Ghislain dating [cf. infra], and establishes the similarities with the baptismal font at Lincoln, in England, thereby risking a dating in the mid- or late-12th century ["doet ons veronderstellen dat de doopvont alhier uit het derde kwart van de 12e eeuw zou zijn, misschien wel dichtbij het midden van deze eeuw"]. Noted and illustrated in the Jean-Claude Ghislain's Les fragments de fonts baptismaux romans tournaisiens de Kontich et de Hove (1988), with date before the end of the 12th century . Noted in the Belgian Inventory site [https://inventaris.onroerenderfgoed.be/erfgoedobjecten/13230] [accessed 18 October 2023] as a 12th-century Romanesque limestone font restored iin 1969 ["Bevat een arduinen Romaanse doopvont met voorstelling van dieren op kuip uit de twaalfde eeuw, gerestaureerd in 1969." The entry for this church in the Belgian Wikipedia [https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint-Laurentiuskerk_(Hove)] [accessed 18 October 2023] notes a bluestone Romanesque baptismal font dating from the 12th century decorated with animals on the basin ["Het arduinen romaanse doopvont is van de 12e eeuw. Op de kuip zijn dieren gebeeldhouwd."] Noted and illustrated in the Hove site [https://www.hove.be/romaanse-doopvont-sint-laurentiuskerk] [accessed 18 October 2023]: the font was found broken up in 1968 but the pieces were relatively intact, the sides of the square measuring 88 cm; it mentions the similar font found at nearby Kontich, and suggests both were ordered by the Abbey of Lobbes; the text, which also mentions the presence of tiny fleur-de-lis symbols between some of the lions, goes on to make some [rather far-fetched?] connections between the exagerated sexual organs on some of the lions and the sixth Commandment codemning adultery.
