Font Notes:
Baptismal font listed in Palissy [ref.: PM89000937]: "Fonts baptismaux [...] pierre] [...] Moyen Age [...] Epoque gothique tardif [...] H = 93 ; la = 93". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP54L00595, AP54L00937 and MHR27_20208900228]. The font consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with four protrusions set at 90-degree angles (in the manner of the usual heads), raised on a broad quadrangular pedestal base with chamfered corners, and a moulded lower base; the inside of the basin appear divided into three round compartments, probably a later modification. The wooden cover is round, flat and plain; modern. The article 'Le mystère des fonts baptismaux élucidé' by Michèle Thiry in the 1 September 2012 edition of L'Yone Républicaine [https://www.lyonne.fr/saint-germain-des-champs-89630/actualites/le-mystere-des-fonts-baptismaux-elucide_1255892/] [accessed 11 October 2013] states that the font in Saint-Germain-des-Champs is similar to those in Pontaubert and Vault-de-Lugny. Noted and illustrated in the entry for this church in photos-eglises [https://photos-eglises.fr/Bourgogne/89/pontaubert/pontaubert.htm] [accessed 8 October 2023] with date in the 15th century ["les fonts baptismaux, en pierre du XVème"]. The entry for this church in the French Wikipedia [https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Église_Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité_de_Pontaubert] [accessed 8 October 2023] informs of a move of the font within the church in the mid-20th century ["La cuve baptismale se trouvait à l'entrée, et a été rapprochée du chœur par l'abbé Junot après Vatican II." [cf. BSI entry for Pontaubert No. 2 for a large metal stoup in this church]
