Baptismal font listed in Palissy [ref.: PM51001268]: Fonts baptismaux [...] cuve [...] Fonte de fer [...] 16e siècle [...] D = 60 [...] Transept, bras sud". Illustrated in Mémoire [ref.: AP51W02627 and AP72P00811]. The large cast iron basin is roughly bucket-shaped and of a design more commonly found in holy-water stoups, although this one is quite large, with a 60 cm diameter at the upper rim; it rest on four(?) stumpy legs; it has four loops on the sides with hanging rings, as if it was intended to be moved often; it has large shell motifs decorating the side below the rim, and some other motif or symbol as well; the sides of the basin are decorated with many tiny human figures(?) standing between thin mouldings. No cover present.
A communication to BSI from Pol Herman (e-mail of 18 November 2022) informs of an auction sale advertised in the Gazette Drouot, N°34. 29 septembre 2023 [https://www.gazette-drouot.com/lots/17151808-cuve-baptismale-en-fonte-de---] [accessed 4 October 2023] for a similar font: "dans l'église d'Orbais -l'abbaye ( Marne)", but it does not release the provenance of the one for sale.
