view of basin - interior

Scene Description: the running commentary by Professor Timothy Power pointed out that residue analyses carried out on the basin interior surfaces showed it was salt water that was contained in the cistern/font, which would suggest it was used for baptisms

Font Notes:
A report by John Dennehy in the 3 November 2022 edition of The National News (UAE), 'Ancient Christian monastery discovered in Umm Al Quwain' [https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/heritage/2022/11/03/ancient-christian-monastery-discovered-in-umm-al-quwain/] [accessed 28 September 2023] informs of the discovery and excavations of an ancient monastery under the Sinniyah Archaeology Project, a collaboration between the Umm Al Quwain Department of Tourism and Archaeology, the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University in New York and the Italian Archaeological Mission in Umm Al Quwain, and the leadership of Professor Timothy Power of the UAE University. "The monastery encompassed a cluster of buildings including a kitchen, storerooms and cistern for collecting drinking water and an oven for communion bread. Adjacent is an abbot’s house or 'bishop’s palace' [...] A large cistern found close to the altar could have potentially been used for baptisms. It is believed they celebrated mass at the single-aisle church
