Holy-water stoup in the nave of the cathedral; decorated basin attributed to Antonio Federighi on a pedestal base that bears the date 1506 recording the donation of the stoup by Gerolamo Vantaggiolito the cathedral [NB: Federighi died in 1490; unless the piece is a composite, the attribution to the 'school of' would be appropriate]. The round basin is rather shallow, decorated on the outside with a vine, cherubs, fruit and cartouches; the inside of the basin has fish swimming in it, and little turtles walking around its rim; the base has four sections: the upper one has monstruous fish with angels sitting on them; the section below that is shaped like a round basin bearing an inscription identifying the donor and the year of the donation [cf. supra]; the next section down has several putti strapped or linked together holding the 'basin' on their shoulders; between them, on one of the sides is a frame (a shield?) on which is a rampant dragon holding up a sword; the lowest section is quadrangular with blank panels on the sides.
