A round basin in Asmushausen ["die runden Becken zu Asmushausen"] is mentioned in Heinrich Otte's Handbuch der kirchlichen Kunst-Archäologie des deutschen Mittelalters. 3., umgearb. Aufl. (1883: 311) [https://archive.org/details/handbuchderkirc00ottegoog/page/310/mode/2up] [accessed 3 August 2023]. A medieval font in Asmushausen is noted in Dieter Grossman's Der Taufstein zu Oberhaun, in the Kunstchronik, September 1956, Heft 9 [74938-Artikeltext-207528-1-10-20200819-2.pdf] [accessed 3 August 2023] as a former baptismal font that had been turned into a support for the pulpit in 1662 ["In Asmushausen (Kr. Rotenburg/F.), wo der Taufstein 1662 ebenfalls zum Kanzelfuß umgearbeitet wurde, schmückt den allein erhaltenen beckenartigen Oberteil ein Rundbogenfries." The font is now [2022] back to its original position and liturgical use. No cover present. A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 4 August 2022) the question is raised whether the 12th-century font was originally from Asmushausen itself, or had been brought in from elsewhere; there had been a church in the village before the Bergkirche was built on its present site but we have not found any mention of a 12th-century church here.
