The only record we have found for the medieval font here is a 1864 pencil drawing by Carl Theodor Reiffenstein, in the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main [https://www.art-prints-on-demand.com/a/carltheodor-reiffenstein/taufstein-in-lich-1.html] [accessed 24 July 2023] [cf. ImagesArea]; it shows a tub basin with slightly tapering sides decorated with a scotia below the upper rim, and a row of round-headed arches or windows all around. We have no information on its present whereabouts. The Wikipedia entry for this church [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marienstiftskirche_(Lich)] [accessed 24 July 2023] with reference to Walbe's Die Kunstdenkmäler des Kreises Gießen (1933: 254) notes that the present font and altar are by the same hand, in the same stone, a dark grey veined marble ["Altar und Taufbecken sind aus weiß-geädertem, schwarz-grauem Lahnmarmor gefertigt und entsprechen einander."] The font is modern, octagonal-to-square in shape.
