view of basin in context - upper view

Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Pol Herman for bringing this object to our attention and for his help in documenting it
Church Notes: previous church dedicated to St James the Greater; re-built nearby 18thC; re-built 1816
The object appears to be an octagonal basin of a Gothic baptismal font, now relegated to the outside of the church in Melbach; the sides of the octagon are carved with trefoiled arches or windows, one on each panel; the outside of the basin is painted a reddish hue; the inside well of the basin is round, without a lining; no base present. A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 10 October 2022) informs: "Gotischer Taufstein. Das Becken besass einen Fuss aus Sandstein der abgebrochen ist", but we have not been able to corroborate this information anywhere else.
