Baptismal font consisting of a bucket-shaped basin decorated with an arcade of twelve round arches on columns with simple capitals, the underbowl gadrooned or ribbed; round pedestal base that looks much earlier than the basin [cf. infra]. The wooden cover is round and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle; modern. Karl-Heinz Betz' Das ikonologische Programm der Alten Kapelle in Regensburg [https://www.heimatforschung-regensburg.de/2091/1/1325666_DTL1391.pdf] [accessed 18 July 2023] quotes an earlier source ["KDB, 40] as to the composition of the baptismal font, which integrates a former idol altar: "In der Marienkapelle befindet sich in der Mitte ein ehemaliger Götzenaltar, aus welchem nachher ein Taufstein gebildet wurde" [NB: the footnote appears to refer to J. Schmid, Die Urkunden-Regesten des Kollegiatstiftes U. L. Frau zur Alten Kapelle in Regensburg. 2 Bde. (1911 und 1912) (= Schmid, Regesten), Nr. 449; Ders.: Die Geschichte des Kollegiatstiftes U . L. Frau zur Alten Kapelle in Regensburg (1922) ( = Schmid, Geschichte), 1]. Graf Hugo von Walderdorff, Regensburg in seiner Vergangenheit und Gegenwart (1896), however, describes the font as 12th-century, the basin decorated with an arcade of round arches which, at the time [1896] still showed traces of the painted figures of the Apostles ["In der Vituskapelle östlich der Nordvorhalle steht ein Taufstein mit zwölf Blendarkaden, vom Ende des 12. Jh. Das Becken ist mit 14 durch Säulchen getrennte Blindnischen geziert. In denselben befanden sich 1896 noch Spuren von gemalten Apostelbildern." [cf. supra]. [NB: unless the basin has been drastically re-tooled since 1896 it is unlikely to be medieval at all, but a much later work]
