Church Notes: church first documented 1216; modified 15thC; again in 1660; re-built 1892; burned down 1990; re-built thereafter
Described and illustrated in the Kirchengemeinde-brackwede.de web site [https://kirchengemeinde-brackwede.de/pages/kirche/taufbecken.php] [accessed 12 July 2023] as a baptismal font of 1685 which survived the 1990 fire that destroyed most of the church; the font was recovered and restored; made of sandstone from Obernkirchen, consists of an octagonal basin bearing an inscription ["ANILSABEIN CULMAN VEREHRT JOHANN STEINENBÖMER"] that rest on the head of a figure identified as Matthew, the Evangelist, seated and with an open book in his lap, a moulded octagonal upper base bearing an inscription ["31 DEC-B/1685"], and an octagonal lower base. [NB: the above source identifies An[na] Ilsabein Culman as a pastor's widow, a midwife of Brackwede, dedicated to help the locals in need of her skills; Johann Steinbomer was the donor of the font]. No cover present.
