Scene Description: a baptism being officiated using the old font in the parish garden; a note in the source informs that the pastor encouraged parishioners to have their children baptised in the garden so as to comply with the distancing requirements; it was approved by the diocese (Mainz) [cf. The entry for this church in the diocese's web site [https://bistummainz.de/pfarrei/lampertheim/aktuell/nachrichten/nachricht/Taufen-wieder-erlaubt/] [accessed 10 July 2023] notes and illustrates a large stone basin in the parish garden as the medieval font [12thC?] that was removed from the parish church in 1563 ["Die Tauffeiern werden unter freiem Himmel im schön hergerichteten Pfarrgarten der Andreasgemeinde stattfinden. Dort steht ein alter Taufstein, der wohl aus dem 12. Jahrhundert stammt und 1563 aus der Andreaskirche entfernt wurde"]. The onject is roughly cylindrical, almost totally round on the outside at the rim, but the inside appears octagonal; there is evidence of a plug in the rim, possibly to hold an anchoring for an old font cover; one side has a large rectangular notch cut vertically all the way down, with no evident purpose. No cover present. The same source [cf. supra] informed that the old font was re-used for baptisms officiated during the COVID pandemic [cf. ImagesArea]
