The entry for this church in the Kirchengemeindelexikon 1800 Geschichten [https://kirchengemeindelexikon.de/einzelgemeinde/steyerberg-riessen/] [accessed 9 July 2023] mentions a wooden font of 1656 bearing inscriptions that identify the donors ["Reich verzierte, farbig gefasste Holztaufe mit Deckel (1656), vierseitige Bodenplatte mit abgeschrägten Ecken; kurzer, achteckiger Schaft; achteckige Zylindercuppa, Wandungen zweifach kassettiert, Inschriften: „Ernst Werenberg hat diese Tavffe zvm Gedechtnvs seines sel[igen] Sohns Johann so in der See vertrvnken verehret. Anno 1656“ (Gal 3,27).] The parish site [https://www.kirchenkreis-stolzenau-loccum.de/gemeinden/steyerberg] [accessed 9 July 2023] mentions two fonts in it: "Ein etwa 1000jähriger Taufstein im Eingangsbereich ...] und ein hölzerner Taufstein aus dem Jahr 1656." The Wikipedia entry for this church [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:St.-Katharinen-Kirche_(Steyerberg)] [accessed 9 July 2023] reports two fonts in this church: one stone font with carvings and probably of the 10th century located in the tower space ["Ein steinerner Taufstein romanischen Stils, wohl aus dem 10. Jahrhundert, mit eingemeißelten Darstellungen steht in der Turmhalle"]; a second font, richly decorated and made of wood was donated to the church in 1656; it has a removable font cover ["Ein reich verziertes hölzernes Taufbecken mit abnehmbarem Deckel wurde 1656 gestiftet"]. The 1656 font consists of a hexagonal basin with brightly painted and decorated panels on two levels; the upper ones have round arches, some of which contain symbols or inscriptions; the ones on the lower register are plainer, one of them giving the date of the font: "CHRISTVM ANNO 1656"; short pedestal base with cross-shaped side support; on a square lower base or plinth. The elaborate cover continues the general form and colours of the font itself, and is hooked to a counterweight pulley to raise and lower it.
