A plaque outside the church gives the date of the font as 1557. Full report on the restoration of this font and cover by Anja Tomaschewski (2015-2018) Befunduntersuchung und Restaurierung der 1. Fassung des Taufsteines samt Deckel aus der Kirche Kleinschirma (14. Jh) [https://www.anja-tomaschewski.de/de/referenzen_show?content=28223] [accessed 8 July 2023] shows the font before and after the restoration. The font consists of a round basin with sharp protruding moulding at the upper rim, bulges around the underbowl; slender stem with large flat moulding, splaying to a round lower base. fully painted on all its surfaces, including the date "1557" painted atop the lower base [NB: a photograph taken before the restoration shows that a date of a previous restoration, "1744" was painted in the same place]. Octagonal dome-saped wooden cover with knob finial; equally painted from top to bottom.
