Church Notes: collegiate church built for an existing female convent here ca. 800; a second convent church built in the 10thC; as many as four different churches may have existed on this site before the present one; became imperial abbey [Reichsabtei Niedermünster] in the 11thC; re-built 1152 after a fire; modified in the Baroque style 17thC; abbey secularised 1802/1803; abbey church became parochial [Dompfarrkirche] in 1821/1824
One of two medieval baptismal fonts of this church, this one made of stone; it consists of a large cylindrical tub-shaped basin, with a broad flat moulding below the upper rim; raised on a squat polygonal base; the basin shows damage on the underbowl. Wooden cover with metal anchorings; round, flat and plain. [cf. BSI entry for Regensburg No. 4 for the other medieval font in this church]
