As noted above, the basin and base do not appear to belong together, thus forming a composite object that consists of a roughly oval basin decorated with a torus-scotia around the rim, and a pattern of flat ribs around the basin sides and underbowl; rectangular pedestal with several parallel mouldings. Metal cover, oval dome with cross finial. The restoration of the font was reported in the 5 June 2014 edition of La République du Centre [https://www.larep.fr/courcelles-45300/actualites/les-fonts-baptismaux-neufs-de-retour_11031115/] [accessed 4 July 2023]: "En restauration depuis huit mois, les fonts baptismaux viennent de retrouver leur place devant le retable du fond de l'église paroissiale Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur, Sainte-Anne, Sainte-Apolline." The entry for this church in Wikipedia https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Église_Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur_de_Courcelles-le-Roi] [accessed 4 July 2023] reports "un bénitier d'une qualité exceptionnelle de la même époque, avec toute la grandeur et la dignité sévère du style Louis XIV" but gives no reference to it. The holy-water stoup is also noted in the Sauvegarde de l’Art Français [https://www.sauvegardeartfrancais.fr/projets/courcelles-eglise-saint-jacques-le-majeur/] [accessed 4 July 2023], but we could not find a listing for it in Mémoire.
